Superoxide Dismutase 1 Protects Hepatocytes from Type I Interferon Driven Oxidative Damage
This study investigates the role of superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) in protecting the liver from damage caused by viral hepatitis. The research team used mouse models to show that SOD1 deficiency leads to aggravated liver damage upon viral infection. The study also reveals that type I interferon (IFN-I) signalling plays a crucial role in this process, as it downregulates SOD1 expression and promotes oxidative damage. Importantly, blocking IFN-I signalling with specific antibodies ameliorates the liver damage, indicating that this pathway is a potential therapeutic target for viral hepatitis. https://researchgate.net/
