Stroke Outcomes Post-Endovascular Therapy: Impact of Previous Vascular Disease and Sex
This research article explores the relationship between prior symptomatic vascular disease and outcomes in patients undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) for acute large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke. The study, conducted at the Bern Stroke Center in Switzerland, analysed data from over 900 patients, focusing on the impact of previous vascular events on various outcomes, including reperfusion, recurrent stroke, intracranial haemorrhage, and death. The researchers discovered that patients with a history of previous vascular events experienced an increased risk of in-hospital complications and poorer functional outcomes following EVT, particularly for men. The findings highlight the importance of considering prior vascular disease in risk assessment and treatment planning for stroke patients undergoing EVT. https://researchgate.net/
