Doppler assessment and cesarean delivery in SGA fetuses
This research article from the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics investigates the link between Doppler ultrasound measurements and the risk of secondary Caesarean section for intrapartum fetal compromise (IFC) in small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses. The study found that low levels of umbilical vein blood flow (UVBF), adjusted for abdominal circumference, were significantly associated with an increased risk of Caesarean section for IFC in SGA fetuses. Conversely, the study found no association between Doppler parameters and neonatal acidosis. The authors conclude that assessing UVBF could potentially aid in risk stratification and patient counselling regarding the place and mode of delivery for SGA pregnancies. https://researchgate.net/
